Reasons to believe you may have a water leak.

  • Poor pressure on the cold tap at your kitchen sink.
  • Your central heating needs topping up regularly.
  • The Tanks in your attic are constantly filling.
  • Your Hot water cylinder rapidly emptying of hot water.
  • The Water tanks in your attic not filling on occasion.
  • Your central heating system has an automatic top up valve.
  • You have received a notice from the council suggesting you have a leak.

If you are a in a commercial environment the following causes may also be due to a water leak.

  • you have recently received an unusually high water bill
  • Your water meter continually runs during times of no water consumption on your property, overnight for example
We use the latest high tech equipment to pinpoint the exact location of any water leak you may have. We can then fix the leak with virtually no intrusion.

Acoustic Method

When a water pipe is damaged, water leaks out of the pipe producing two types of noise.

  1. The water leaking out of the pipe causes a vibration, difficult to detect without the correct equipment. Using a Hydrolux ground microphone, you can hear these water leak vibrations, even at remote locations where contact with the pipe is possible (valve, hydrant, connection to building etc.)
  2. The water escaping at the leak location creates sounds that are transmitted to the surface. Our ground microphone displays these sounds graphically, helping to pin-point the source of the leak.

Gas Tracer Method

  • The use of tracer gas for locating leaks in water pipes with electronic gas detection equipment has been tried and tested for several years.
  • The suspected leaking pipe is filled with a hydrogen/nitrogen tracer gas. This gas then makes its way out of the pipe to the leak location and accumulates at the surface. This gas is capable of penetrating all materials (including concrete, tiles, tarmac etc.) Once the gas rises to the surface, it is then traceable with our equipment.
